Columbarium and Garden of Remembrance
Building with the largest number of public niches in Hong Kong
Leighton Asia has been selected to construct a Columbarium and Garden of Remembrance by the Architectural Services Department, HKSAR.
The scope of works includes construction of an eight-storey columbarium building to provide 160,000 niches including offices, storerooms, 30 joss paper burners and a 4,800 square metre Garden of Remembrance and associated landscape and ancillary facilities.
Design and construction of piled foundation system together with pile caps and strap beams to the building. It also includes construction of a two-way two-lane standard access road including a 30 metre long link bridge from Nim Wan Road to the Columbarium.
The site is located on a disused Pulverized Fuel Ash (PFA) lagoon. There are stringent restrictions from an environmental perspective, which includes specified pollution prevention measures during decommissioning of the PFA lagoon and ecological preservation measures for protection of the local egret population.
Upon completion, this Columbarium will provide the largest number of public niches in Hong Kong with a magnificent sea view of the Garden of Remembrance with name plaque walls.
