Safety & health

Safety underpins everything we do

We are committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace for every one of our people with the aim of eliminating all permanent injuries.

Through strong safety leadership at all levels and our Strive for L▪I▪F▪E (Leighton Incident Free Environment) initiative, we are constantly assessing the workplace for health and safety risks that can place our people in danger.

Once the risks are identified, we work together to find innovative ways to eliminate or control those risks. From design to tender and final project delivery, we hold ourselves to the highest health and safety standards.

We prioritise safety at all levels of our organisation through safety training and rigorous workplace standards and strive to improve the industry in every one of our markets through leadership and innovation. We hold international certification OHSAS18001:2007 for our occupational health and safety system.

Leighton Asia’s successful Strive for L▪I▪F▪E safety programme was born out of a bold vision to effect genuine positive change and a cultural shift towards the elimination of Class 1 incidents.

L▪I▪F▪E stands for Leighton Incident Free Environment and is what we are seeking to achieve.

The programme officially kicked off on 25 November 2009 in Hong Kong and Macau and was subsequently rolled out across Asia with a number of ceremonies and key initiatives.

We set up the Leighton Asia Board Safety Subcommittee and started a site safety inspection process called the Strive for L▪I▪F▪E safety walk. We developed a Safety Leadership Programme to educate our managers and supervisors and put our workforce through Health, Safety and Environment Induction Programmes.

In October 2010, we opened the state-of-the-art Strive for L▪I▪F▪E Knowledge and Skills Training Centre in Hong Kong, where our workers undergo classroom instruction and practical training on our safety standards. By embracing safety as a core value, we actively encourage a safety culture on site.
